I just got this the other day, bought it more or less on a whim, but what a great deal. It's actually 2 hours of dance/instruction. Blanca is very pretty, very serene, with a soft accent, which sounds very soothing. She's not perky with a huge grin splitting her face in two and she's not all bouncy and bubbly, none of that instant best friend vibe, just pleasant and serene. It's a sensual dance instruction and she wears her part very well. The settings are very nice, not distracting, and she wears great costumes for teaching (you can see her legs when she does the moves). You can also see her perform the dances in full costume and she's very lovely to watch. My husband really liked the music and the dance style for its sensuality and slow, languid movements. I watched one of the dances first and thought, 'wow, I'd like to move like her.' She moves like liquid, like silk, whatever elegant, graceful, flowing metaphor you want. Instructionwise, she breaks everything down very well, from snake arms, using a lot of descriptive terms (like your arms are moving through honey, is one example), hip circles, figure 8's, and so on. Then she builds on these initial, isolated movements, and you learn more layers, combinations, steps, and build on and on. She even explains alignment, how to align your head, for example, to look more graceful. It's a bit like the Jillina dance instruction dvds, in how she gives you the basics and you build on and on until you are doing a choreographed dance. And of course you can skip and just do the basics or dance along with her, or just watch Blanca, which is what I want to do in addition to learning to dance like her. The music is very nice too and the dances are slow and languid, nothing super fast, but your muscles will feel it nonetheless. It would be fine for beginner dancers or for intermediates. She doesn't spend a huge amount of time on each move, so you do get a lot for 2 hours, but you can always rewind 15 or 30 seconds and review. I've got 20 to 30 bellydance dvds and vhs tapes at home and while I've seen and worked out to a lot: Mara, Jillina, Bellytwins, Kathy Smith (just that one), Bellyqueen, Bellydance Superstars, Suhaila, East Coast Tribal, American Tribal and more, I still am very happy with the dvd. It's shot a good angles (not distracting or only focused on the abs), the production is very good, and it's a nice focus on flowing dance. It's not something you pop in to learn a couple moves for the club, but a lovely sensual routine to stretch and dance to. Venus is the right name because it is very sensual and elegant and beautiful. --amazon.com (US)

About the Actor
Blanca has devoted her life to the pursuit of unveiling her own language as a dancer and artist. Against all odds, she followed the career of a belly dancer from her childhood in Mexico where the profession did not yet exist. Since i was a teen there has been nothing as important to me as becoming a good dancer. The dance has taught me compassion, made me grow in infinite ways and continues to allow me to tap into my deepest artistic expression. I became a belly dancer against my conservative beginnings... against the notion that to be a dancer one has to be a size zero, and start ballet at age 3. After years of painful work, I realized that it was all for nothing--until i connected with my spiritual side and began to dance from there. Blanca has performed onstage with Alabina and the surrealist gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello. Her television credits include the Bollywood Music Awards, which aired worldwide, as well as multiple appearances on Spanish television networks Univision and Telemundo, Fox and BBC. She has performed at venues as diverse as Trump's Taj Mahal, the Brooklyn Museum of art and Lincoln Center. Other credits include: Rolling Stone, Universal Pictures, MTV, and Disney

Great Performance!5
Features most of the bands big hits including House of Fun, Our House, The Prince, My Girl, Wings of a Dove and Baggy Trousers to name a few.
The concert is excellent and is great entertainment. It's about time another Live Madness DVD was released as this was filmed in 1998.
There is also a little into/behind the scenes with the band at the beginning of the feature.
A must have for any Madness fan and for anyone who enjoys music.

Very good4
Highly entertaining with tons of feel good factor. My musical partner muttered about a few bum notes (hence the four stars) but I'm tone deaf so it sounded just fine to me. I guess you can't expect musical perfection on a reunion concert and the entertainment value more than make up for it. OK for the the family if you skip the intro (a few F words in there)

the track list on the cover and description is wrong but no matter as all the hits are on this and its a great dvd , with other outakes on it and rolling interview bits by the band . a good buy

Beyonce Experience (BLU-RAY REVIEW)5
The Blu-ray edition of this concert is only available for import from USA, but despite this it IS region free so you will have no trouble in playing this disk on a UK region B player.

The concert itself is amazing featuring all Beyonce's biggest hits along with an extensive medley of Destiny's Child classics and surprise guests and the production is first class. Every effort has been made to ensure that this is a memorable show. Sadly it lacks any special features but you do get an entertaining show that's over 2 hours long. An essential purchase!!

musical entertainment at its best5
I value greatly music of all types I have quite a good overall collection but I can honestly say I have never sat through such a compelling quality production in all my life it was to say the least brilliantly orchestrated
and produced Beyonce has such high standards in all she does and this was well demonstrated in this fantastic production

Turn the radio 'back on'4
Ignore the previous review if you like serious film, 'Radio On' is a key British film of the 70's. A compelling look at Britain on the cusp of Thatcherism, and a rare document of the desolate state of the nation at that time. The performances are fine, and you can spot familiar faces galore from the cast (Sue the punk from Eastenders anyone?).

Add to that, one of the finest soundtracks you could wish to hear, post-punk classics from Bowie, Devo, Lydia Lunch, Kraftwerk and more contribute to the overall feeling of nostalgia. Treasure this rarity available on DVD for the first time, and don't be put off with the fact that Mr Gordon Sumner stars in it, he doesn't get enough screen time to do his cameo spoilers a la Quadrophenia.

Turn on, tune in and you won't drop off!

Your DVD is filmic reality 24 times a second...5
Hard to believe this marvellous film is now thirty years old. I can't think of anything else like it. If you like DVDs, this is surely a must-have.

If the plot can be summarised as "A man drives his Rover from London to Bristol along the A4, then goes to the pier at Weston Super-Mare" it is also hard to believe it could be cool.

I'm not even mentioning getting the train from Minehead...

...because if it's in black and white with a Kraftwerk/ Bowie/ new wave soundtrack, it's different. What a film should be. Makes you look at things differently and think about them.

In fact, much of the film actually has less of a soundtrack than 2009's sporting highlights do!

And there's the shots of the Westway and the pylons.

Unmissable.

Ideas like "we are the children of Wernher von Braun" are interspersed with things like "Free Astrid Proll" graffiti. If you weren't there, it sounds like an advert.

Then there's the humour. "Why do people go to the sea to die?" "I suppose it's a kind of last resort".

A beautifully-made film. Is there a moral? Don't have a girlfriend who has 28 tellies - and make sure your car insurance is third party, fire and "abandoned in quarry"...? If you can't pigeonhole it, it's because it's a landmark...

Get it.

Definitely Radio ON!!!4
If you're looking for a movie to while away a dull couple of hours & want some "easy viewing" then look elesewhere.

However, if you a reminder of the bleakness of Britain in the early 80's then check this out. I was so taken with the photography & soundtrack that the plot & characters assumed a supporting role.

Look at how bleak (not to mention empty!)the A4 looks & also Bristol. This was very much the analogue age with cassette tapes, no mobile phones, service stations which were not self service, ....it's amazing.

Yep, this is Britain as it was....

No Need to Go Down to the Crossroads...5
...to sell your soul to the devil, as Ainslie has apparently already been there, done that, got the licks! This is far and away the best instructional material on Robert Johnson's guitar styles I've ever come across, and I've been listening to RJ for about forty years... Ainslie takes seven numbers which pretty much represent the whole range of keys and tunings in which Johnson played and does a detailed, careful analysis of each one, so that (for example) once you've got a hold of the first song he teaches, Kindhearted Woman Blues in A, standard tuning, you have a sound basis for working on Johnson's many other songs in that key. The tablature book is pretty good too. Couple this DVD with Scott's book of Johnson transcriptions and you have the whole kit you need for tackling RJ's legendary recordings.

Scott has some vids on YouTube of his versions of Johnson's songs - well worth checking out.

Totally unmissable for any fan of PG's music5
This new Peter Gabriel double DVD is a real cracker.

Disc 1 is a clever compilation from various small-venue concerts but unlike some DVD's of this type, it isn't always obvious where one concert ends and another begins. The audience sound is continued through and matched so that it's almost seamless.

There are some well known songs (Red rain, Secret world, games without frontiers, San Jacinto, Digging in the dirt, Solsbury Hill (of course), Sledgehammer, Come talk to me and Biko) but all are films that haven't been released before and all are often quite different from those we have seen - either in the way they're performed or the arrangements. (Games without frontiers is very unusual).

There are also far more unusual songs such as White ashes (VERY creepy), Burn you up, burn you down and The tower that ate people.

By far the most moving performance (it brought a lump to my throat and more than one tear to my jaded eyes) is 'Come talk to me'. He performs it with his daughter and from the way it was performed; the way he glanced across at her mid-way through, and the way it ended, I'd suspect that this tour was one of the first times they'd sung it together. Very, VERY emotional.

ONE TIP: have subtitles turned on because PG introduces several songs in French and these are well worth following if you're not fluent in the language.

Disc 2 is a perfect complement for the 'Growing Up Family Portrait' DVD in that it provides a further host of fascinating insights into PG's ideas, ways of working and attitudes to both life and music.

Any fan of PG will thoroughly enjoy this DVD not only because of the music and the quality of sound and vision, but also because of the honesty with which PG talks about himself and his music.

What would now be REALLY interesting would be a third documentary showing the various stages of PG at work writing and recording in his studio. (I recall a 'Southbank Show' film from years ago when he recorded PG4. That would be a great 'Extra' for any such DVD)

Still Great!!!5
This DVD cannot be compared to the GU 2003 Tour. It captures songs not included on the previous DVD and the ambience is quite different as it was shot around Europe in small festivals which gives a new perspective. It includes a second DVD with interviews between each song and I highly recommend it.

Superb DVD for all fans of PG5
Got this DVD for Christmas after reading a great review. I was not disappointed.
A great choice of songs and the interviews on the second disc are a welcome addition.
I shall now go & buy the Growing Up DVD so I can get the whole picture of the tour.

Lady Blah Blah!1
I bought this without any real knowledge of it's content, other than the promise of "the real story" as this is completely unofficial I didn't expect anything fantastic, but I did however expect something better than this.

Basically what we have is 45 odd minutes of so called experts (including two journalists and a dominatrix!! Yes really!!) Discussing all things GaGa, not only is this not very interesting, these people don't even seem to be very big fans, therefore at times speaking in a negative tone. This is sliced up between grainy interview footage and a few pretty amateur cover versions of her hits.

Interestingly, much of the programme discusses issues like sex and drugs in the music industry and gives very brief bios of other singers including David Bowie and Madonna- featuring a grainy (again) film of Madonna at the 1990 MTV awards.

For an artist who hasn't been around that long it's understandable that this isn't the most lengthy of films, but it could have at least focussed on its star more. For serious die hards only!

very intersting!5
i this i a good look at the star, and what shes like,i would recommend this definitely.

Amazon.co.uk Review
They may be every parent's nightmare, but the rap all-stars that comprise the 2000 Up in Smoke tour (smoke, as in blunts and chronic--or marijuana, for the uninitiated) are incredibly popular with a surprising cross-section of young music lovers today. This two-hour-plus DVD captures most of one concert by the four rappers who joined together for this tour: Ice Cube, Eminem, Dr Dre, and Snoop Dogg. If you aren't a fan of the music, don't expect this to change your mind, or even to help you understand these rappers' appeal. For the devoted, however, you get heaping doses of four of the hottest acts working, in a show that includes lavish production values, as well as plenty of backstage footage and photographs as extra features. Given the slice-and-dice editing (no shot, it seems, is allowed to last more than two seconds), it's hard to get a fix on them or a true picture of what the show looked like if you happened to be sitting in the audience. --Marshall Fine

Top 10 Essential Songs to Learn to Play on Guitar

There are some songs that never go out of style. The classics that have been able to stand the test of time are known by two or three generations. The same goes for songs people learn to play on guitar. Some songs whether you're 15 or 50 are just staples you have to learn along the way.

I've done some research and pieced together the top 10 songs people learn to play on the guitar. These span a few decades and are not genre specific. So if you're looking for some new songs to learn this is a great list to start with.

#10 Dust in the Wind

Depending on your age you either remember this song from when it was originally released in 1978 or you've heard it in numerous movies over the last 10-15 years. Either way this classic tune by Kansas is an easy to play song for most beginners. All you need to know your basic open chords.

#9 Sweet Home Alabama

The guitar riff at the beginning of Sweet Home Alabama is as memorable as anything that's every been played on the radio. It's easy enough to figure out but fun enough to play that beginners absolutely love it. You can learn this song on an acoustic or electric guitar and it sounds great.

HINT: Take some time to figure out that intro lead part and then tie it in with the simple chords for the verse and the chorus.

#8 Smoke on the Water

Another classic riff during the intro of this song makes it another memorable tune. Deep Purple had quite a few classic rock songs, but none other gained the popularity as Smoke on the Water.

#7 Tears in heaven

One of the newer songs in this top ten, Eric Clapton's, Tears in Heaven, was first introduced to us on his unplugged album in 1992. He wrote the song about the sudden loss of his four year old son in 1991, but has since stopped performing the song in more recent years.

This is a classic tune to learn on acoustic guitar. It takes a bit of patience and practice to play it properly but it's worth the time.

#6 Brown Eyed Girl

Few song writers have had the longevity of Van Morrison, and his song Brown Eyed Girl is a testament of just how great he is at his craft. This is an easy song to learn for most beginner players, and even more fun if you learn to sing and play it at the same time.

#5 More Than Words

This great acoustic slow song echoed through most high school gymnasiums in the early and mid nineties. Another great song to play and sing a lot of guitar players have learned to play this one for a special someone they love.

#4 Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd is one of the biggest rock bands of all time, and their classic song Wish You Were Here is the fourth most popular song guitar players want to learn. If you're a beginner I suggest skipping the intro lead section and jumping right to the chords.

#3 Hotel California

Another hit that has stayed with us over the years, Hotel California is a great acoustic song to learn either on your own or jamming with friends. There is more then one guitar part in the song so depending on your current skill level you could learn just the chords or also take a stab at the great lead part and solo.

#2 Wonder Wall

This might seem crazy to some of you by Oasis's Wonder Wall was a classic acoustic tune from the early nineties. It's still going strong with beginners thanks to it's unique chord progression and catchy melody. If you can sing and play at the same time this one is a must.

#1 Stairway to Heaven

It's probably no surprise that the #1 song people learn to play on guitar is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. This song has a little something for guitar players of all skill levels.

The intro is challenging for beginners to learn, while the solo is as tough as any for more advanced players.

Don't feel your guitar playing is good enough to play some of these songs? No problem, get your self this guitar lesson dvd to improve your skills. It doesn't matter if you've never played a guitar before or not, these dvd lessons will take you to the next level.

Top 10 Music Albums Actually Worth Buying

Given the rise of the Internet, it may seem odd to actually talk about music albums. Most people either borrow music from friends or hang out on free music sites like the section offered on MySpace.com. However, there's nothing like owning a copy of the music you love. For starters, it supports the artists and encourages them to produce more music for you to enjoy.

But where do you begin? There's so many music albums out there that it can be hard to figure out what you actually want to get. If you need help, here are the top 10 music albums that are actually worth buying.

1. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

After you listen to Born to Run, you will definitely see why Bruce Springsteen is referred to as The Boss. Springsteen's signature style and impressive singing voice sound out loud and clear on this album. It's from the 70s, so if you miss that era, you definitely want to pick up Born to Run.

2. Like a Prayer - Madonna

Madonna is one of the greatest female pop singers of all time, with a career that spans across three decades. Like a Prayer is an album that captures Madonna's classic sound and clear relentless voice.

3. Purple Rain - Prince

Prince is as well known for his wacky lifestyle and antics as much as he is for his music. Yet Purple Rain captures Prince at his best - deep soulful tunes, wild guitar styling, and enough funk and groove to keep your toes tapping for a long time.

4. Back in Black - AC/DC

Back in Black by AC/DC seems to be made for karaoke -- after all, who hasn't sung "You Shook Me All Night Long" at the top of their lungs? The album is filled with a lot of great songs and hits to keep you busy for a while.

5. Ropin' The Wind - Garth Brooks

This album from Garth Brooks went platinum 18 times, and stayed at number one for a combined total of 18 weeks over the course of a year. Brooks focused on keeping his country roots and telling plenty of stories along the way.

6. Star Time - James Brown

Star time isn't just an album -- it's a testament to the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown himself. There are over 71 songs to be had on this 4-CD box set, and if you're a fan of the funk and soul of Brown's era, this is truly a must have for your collection.

7. Nevermind - Nirvana

When this album came out at the end of 1991, it was not expected to become the smash hit that it ended up becoming at all. Indeed, the album went on to be certified ten times platinum and has sold 26 million copies to date. With its grunge sound and alternative rock roots, this is definitely a rock'n'roll classic.

8. OK Computer - Radiohead

Radiohead's OK Computer is considered to be one of their best albums. It marks the time where Radiohead really came into their own style, instead of sounding like Pink Floyd or other bands. "Creep", "Exit Music for a Film", and "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" are all great tracks that are found on this album.

9. The College Dropout - Kanye West

The College Dropout is considered one of Kanye West's best albums, which is very impressive since it's West's debut album. It broke the current gangster persona in hip hop and presented a more thoughtful, intelligent round of discourse on the problems in the world.

10. Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem

The Marshall Mathers LP is Eminem's second album, but regarded as one of his best -- some even call it his magnum opus. The lyrics and styling are controversial, but if are a hip hop fan, this is definitely wroth buying.

Author maintains a Top 10 List blog and has many lists including Top 10 Current Albums list on his site.
