Rosas - Rosas Danst Rosas [DVD]

Rosas - Rosas Danst Rosas [DVD] review

Rosas Danst Rosas5
This piece is engaging on so many levels that it can captivate a wide audience including those with little dance experience or knowledge. It is an opportunity to see how a simple phrase of movement can build over time through a variety of techniques such as adding a new gesture, changing the direction of the phrase etc. The dancers show intense commitment to the movement and their physicality is breathtaking. There is a strong focus on movement dynamics (for all those fans of Laban and Choreutics) and this is beautifully complemented by the editing and varied use of different camera shots. The choreographer and film director have a long and successful history working together and this is evidenced throughout this production.
For all Britney fans, check out the group section based around sitting on chairs where a movement phrase builds and dancers 'throw' sections of material back and forth, directions changing, breathe and movement in unison. It's intense and wonderfully rewarding to watch.

Dance, for the Minimalist5
That such a small range of gesture and movement could produce dance of such an absorbing quality is fascinting, intriguing, wonderful. Steve Riechs music and Thierry De May direction really draw the best out of Anna Teresa De Keersmaekers powerful choreography. Buy De Keersmaekers earlier video FASE with this one, together they're twin pearls.
